Author Guidelines

The Swedish Journal of Design Research strives to publish high quality research in the design research field. To be published in the journal, papers must advance the field in meaningful ways through theoretical and/or managerial contributions. It is imperative that authors master the domain in which they want to contribute, and clearly show how their papers relate to previous research in the field. Authors should clearly express in what ways their work advances the field.

The Swedish Journal of Design Research publishes articles focused design research, including but not limited to: design thinking, product design, service design, software design, design management, design and innovation, social change and social innovation, design and art, customer experiences.

The journal strives to be international in scope, in keeping with the increased globalization. It should be relevant to managers and design practitioners. We encourage articles from practitioners as well as academics. No specific research ideology is preferred; quantitative, qualitative, managerial, and conceptual approaches are welcome. Empirical research must be rigorously conducted and presented in transparent ways. Methods sections should include not only method for data collection but also analysis, and if relevant selection of participants/case and/or ethical considerations.

No manuscript is accepted until it has been reviewed in a double-blind review process and sent to two reviewers. The editor’s decision to publish a manuscript is based on the judgments the reviewers. Reviewers are chosen on the basis of their expertise in their respective fields of research. Manuscripts are judged solely on the basis of their content.

Two principal criteria are used in the judgment of a manuscript:
(a) Does it make a significant and substantive contribution to the theory and practice of design? (b) Does it convey its message clearly and concisely?
