About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Culture Unbound: Journal of Current Cultural Research is an open-access peer-reviewed journal that publishes interdisciplinary cultural research. It aims to be international in its readership, authorship and content. The journal challenges existing models of traditional scholarly publishing through its strong commitment to open access publishing and the encouragement of innovative and experimental publishing methods. This allows Culture Unbound to stand as a truly accessible home for cutting-edge cultural research.

The journal welcomes research that explores cultural perspectives, issues or phenomena and contributes significantly to scholarly discussions in one or more fields or disciplines. We are particularly interested in interdisciplinary or trans-disciplinary research as well as work that presents innovative theoretical or methodological approaches. Culture Unbound also welcomes review articles that surveys emerging or changing fields of cultural research.

Culture Unbound is published digitally in Open Access. All articles and thematic sessions are freely available under Volumes. Culture Unbound uses double-blind peer-review. All submissions should include an anonymised version of the manuscript, which following preliminary review by the editorial team, is reviewed by two referees who remain anonymous to the author. The review process normally takes between two and six months.

Since it was launched in June 2009, in addition to independent articles from the wide field of cultural research, Culture Unbound has published thematic sections on particularly interesting and relevant issues. These are edited by specially invited guest editors who contribute with a unique insight into the latest developments within their fields of research.

Culture Unbound is based at Linköping University that provide a unique Swedish profile, building new bridges between regional and global research traditions. It is owned by the interdisciplinary Department of Culture Studies (Tema Q) ans hosted by Linköping University Electronic Press.

Initial support has been granted by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation (Stiftelsen Riksbankens Jubileumsfond), and annual funding comes from Linköping University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Swedish Research Council and the Joint Committee for Nordic Research Councils for the Humanities and the Social Sciences
